E71- Contact numbers cause "Unknown command" error

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I have some numbers stored in Outlook that include additional digits (e.g. passcodes for conference calls). These numbers include spaces (inserted by Outlook) and commas (for delays), and a hash (required by the concall service) so they look something like-

      0123 45678990 ,,,12345#

These worked fine on my old Windows Mobile phone, but the E71 just comes up with "Unknown command".

Any idea what I have to do to get these numbers towork on the E71?

Positioning Methods not stored on N97 mini

Sunday, January 31st, 2010
On my Nokia N97 mini the positioning methods are not stored.
NO positioning method at all is by default stored in my N97 mini.

Therefore i have to select a positioning method first each time before I can use GPS with the new Ovi Maps.
This is really annoying.

Is this a known bug and is there a solution for this?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

5800 backlight is always on.

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

My 5800 has been working fine for about 8 months now, recently it has been cutting out randomly. Last night it locked then froze, I turned it on and off and now it works fine but the backlight never turns off so it is constantly bright.

Very annoying because it is draining the battery, and I never know when I have got a message or anything because all the button lights are always on too.

Any ideas on what the problem is or what I should do?

Thanks

5800XT - Screen Slide Gesture not working - SR# 1-10628064579

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Hi all

Just a heads up that I raised an issue formally with Nokia Care (SR# in $Subject), and received a response. Unfortunately I didn't receive a resolution for the issue, however I though I would let the forum know that the issue has been logged and acknowledged.

My original bug report:

I want to report a bug in the latest firmware update (v40.0.005.C01.01) for my Nokia 5800XM. Update date is 21/01/2010.
The new firmware is overall quite excellent, however I have experience problems with the screen-based unlock gesture when you receive a call.

When a call comes in, there are two bars. One bar is supposed to unlock the phone, the other one answer the call.

The problem seems to lie with the Unlock screen gesture. It doesn't seem to unlock the phone screen. You have to use the hardware unlock slider.

I would also suggest putting the unlock screen gesture on top of (i.e. above) the answer screen gesture, because from a usability standpoint, you always read from top to bottom on the phone screen.

In fact, if you use the iPhone as an example, you probably don't even need the unlock gesture. The iPhone only has one slide to answer. It is unlikely you would accidentally trigger an unwanted answer if there was only one slider.

As an enhancement, you could replace the unlock slide gesture with an Reject option?

And this is the acknowledgement from Nokia Care (Australia)

Thank you for contacting Nokia Careline. To unlock the phone, answer a call, or stopped/snooze the alarm, you may need to slide your finger to the direction of the arrow on the screen. Your diagnosis regarding a possible bugs on the latest firmware update is noted and we appreciate your effort in letting us know this matter.

Should you have any questions regarding our product or if we can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact one of our friendly Technical Support Executives on 1-300 366 733 between the hours of 8am and 8pm, AEST, seven days a week. For online assistance, please visit ‘ASK Nokia’ at our website www.nokia.com.au/asknokia

Unfortunately, I tried what the Careline suggested, but the solution about correct use of the slide gesture was not the solution to my problem.

I responded to that effect, and will post any subsequent responses I receive in this post.

Cheers

Nokia 5800 sensor problems

Sunday, January 31st, 2010
Hey,is any one having sensor problems as i am? I updated my device to v.40 and now my auto rotation sensor only works when it feels like it. I've tried restarting the device, even switching off the sensors but it takes several frustrating attempts before it starts working again. Nokia had better do something about this in their next firmware.

Problems with OVI Suite (N79)

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Hi,

today I upgraded to the "new" Ovi Suite and since than everythings seems to be much slower

 - Synchonisation with outlook (I couldn't find where to set which sets of outlook-adresses to use )

 -  Download software (took20 min.)

 - connect with the mobile (6 min.)

 - Internet connection when using the mobile as modem (too slow)

Am I the only one with these problems or is it a general thing?

Anyhow: Dear NOKA people, please make this thing faster or provide a way to return to the old PC suite

Headset forum - What are the best headsets for different applications - please contribute.

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I am starting this thread because I do not see a general discussion of headsets with Nokia phones. I would like to solicit your opinions of the best headset for different Nokia models and for different situations.

If you respond, please put the Nokia model number, the situation (driving, skiing, etc), the headset you recommend or ask the forum for the best headset.

To start this off, I am looking for a great mountain biking headset.

Model: Nokia E71

Activity: Mountain biking

Type: I am looking for a wired headset (I like the quality better and it uses less battery). It would be great if it had an over the year price to keep them in place when I ride, however, I will consider options.

On another headset note, I have tried the  HS-47 and the headset that comes with the phone and they both are very soft in phone mode no matter how high I turn up the volume.I also noticed that only one earpiece is on during a call but both if listening to music. When playing music they are perfect but not when making a call. So I tried my old Palm Treo headset, the volume is perfect but I cannot use the answer button so I have to open the phone to answer a call which is terrible on the bike.

So I am looking for why this is happening but I am also looking for a replacement.

Thanks to all.
