terrible flagship problems, bluetooth and syncing

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Ok, this is getting a bit pants now..

Firstly, everytime I connect my phone using the USB cable and start either Nokia Music or Ovi it syncs my music.. every track.. every time.. This is on a fresh install of XP SP3.. no other software at all..

Nokia care ummed and errred for a while and "promised" to call back with a solution after trying to convince me that the problem was my tracks didn't have names (which they do.. and album art).. They leaped on the chance to blame my Mac running XP.. firstly, that's not a excuse.. a Mac booting XP is a PC.. secondly, I'm using a Dell, I never said I ran XP on my Mac..

This cannot be normal! (the syncing problem, not the lack of support.. I've never had Nokia care solve a problem, but that goes for Apple too)

Secondly, I have a pair of BH-905.. the flagship headphones.. noise cancelling, BT, very very nice (on paper)..  but..

It is not accep.........tabletocutoutthenspeed up during playback. It does th..........isfartooregularly it is very dull.

Next problem is the first call after turning the headphones on.. the microphone is mute.. You can hear the caller/other end, but they can't hear you. That's real handy, especially if the phone is in your bag.. you have to dig it out, press "activate handset" then "activate BT headset" to allow them to hear you

Seriously, two flagship devices and they didn't test them together?!

I've got to find a decent phone to test the headset. Since the N97 loves bugs, I suspect this is a failing in the phone..

Maybe v20 will solve these problems. Seriously.. BT headset not working.. what year is this? 2001? Screwing up such a basic phone feature is as bad as I dunno playing the default ringtone randomly!! I jest, but still something is very wrong when the two flagship devices (Nokia billed the BH-905 as the best headset ever!) don't work properly.. shocking!!!

Does anyone else have these problems with bluetooth headsets on the N97 or perhaps on other Nokia devices?

How about syncing? I take it everyone here can sync only new tracks when they connect their phone?

Does the facebook app and widget update themselves?

n97 powering up problems

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009
I've had my n97 since the 19th June. Been sort of happy with it so far especially after the various software updates. However it has recently developed a fault where it sometimes turns itself off. When I try to turn it back on it just displays the blue NOKIA on white background then doesnt progress any further. I have to remover the battery and the only way i can get it back on is if i hold the Camera + green + red buttons together while turning it on. I normally have to do this several times though. really makes your fingers ache!

It also does this if I turn it off manually.

5530/5800 qwerty auto correction

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

hi all,

has anyone heard if nokia are going to be adding auto correct/prediction to S60 V5 touch screens?

I ask, as i love my 5530 but mis hitting keys whilst in qwerty mode is a real pain. i previously had an e71 which i could type really quickly on, knowing that the phone would correct 99% of my mistake.

Nokia N97 3 months in

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

as a member of this forum since I got my N97 i regularly read the boards and hear some horror stories and grievances and just thought i'd like to share my observations on the phone so far

as with all new technologies there are always bugs and things to iron out i chose the n97 primarliy as an all in one device as i wanted a change from my iphone and as someone who travels daily for work the ability to entertain me and keep me in touch was a main reason to chose this phone. 32Gb of expandable memory pretty much unheard of for a phone was a killer for me. Video playback as all devices is depending on the formats from ipod to archos to iphone to n95 all seem to have slightly different formats and its just a case of getting a good convertor and getting settings that work i found a ipod convertor freeware software by dvd videosoft (i use the high quality settings)

I now have over 15 films on the phone which all playback fantastic quality

Mp3 playback im pleased with and the beauty of the device is i dont need to bring an mp3 and expensive phone to work wish the player was a little slicker and had a nicer interface but i reckon firmware 2 may sort that. the remotes very nice replaced the headphones. Web browsing is ok not as smooth as the iphone but hey

Camera I havent used much but no problems with the lens cover perhaps because ive used good cases since day 1 and do like to look after the device cleaning it regularly.

The downpoints so far have been for me the missing photos really annoying if you download a pic from the we for album art as you have a 75% chancer of it appearing in the gallery, having to reboot is always a pain but as a follower of new tech have had this since the spv to the n70 to now so i take that as part of having a lot of tech in a small machine. The widgets in particular the facebook widget are bloody annoying as evrytime you lose connection you ended up having to remove the widget and reinstall same with iplayer

But overall I love the phone and wouldnt swap it for anything else on the market Iplayer is a great feature

and being able to drag and drop files and the ever growing instore software and 3rd party apps for me give it the edge over an iphone

as an owner of both i gave the iphone to my daughter and have no regrets roll on firmware 2.0

E52 - Can’t email server contacts

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I have a new E52 (after dropping E51) - I can't find out how to add a recpient to an email if their contact details are on stored on my corporate exchnage server.

I can can search these contacts using the search remote function in the contact section but there is no add remote contact option in the email programme (which there was in the E51).  Either I can't find the option or it's a serious ommission from a business device for the enterprise

Help appreciated

Can’t get Nokia Conversation to work after I updated my N86 to FW 20.115!

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Hi!

Why can't I get Nokia Conversations to work after i updated my N86 to the latest FW?

Is it that Ovi Contacts client that is blocking it?

What is the name of Ovi Contacts in the installed aplication list?

Thanks!..
